Over the summer Greeley West had experienced some issues with their lights falling down. After returning back to school, this President’s Day weekend, many students and faculty noticed chains and wires supporting the lights.
Over the President’s Day weekend, principal Jeffery Cranson had received a call that one of the 12- foot long lights had fallen in one of the health classrooms located on the second floor of the school.
The Adolf and Peterson crew had to come to the quick solution of using wires, or a chain to help support these 12-foot long lights in most classrooms throughout the school.
The team was working until one in the morning to ensure that the lights would be secure and safe for students and faculty until new parts could be ordered.
Cranson explained that, although it may seem questionable, the chains are in place to ensure everyone’s safety. “ The lights will not fall, and there is no need to be worried. We just went ahead and took precautions,” Cranson explained.
The chains will come down after the new parts come in, and this is just a temporary solution.
The lights have been falling due to a manufacturing defect with the product that is used to support the lights. The metal clips are starting to fail resulting in the lights slowly coming down. There have been a few lights around the school that have given signs that they are coming down, they are now fixed. Smaller lights around the school have not shown any signs of falling.
Correction: A previous version of this story said the clips were plastic.
