On Thursday, the Greeley Dream Team held a significant in-school field trip that worked as a way to get the students to attend their mandatory workshops.
To combat and beat the struggles of hosting these workshops in lunch, Academic Advisors Mia Paredez and Alan Thimmig were able to get approval from principal Jeff Cranson to get Dream Team students out of class to attend these workshops.
The different grade levels learned different skills that have been selected based on their timeline in life.
“The freshmen will be learning about financial literacy, career inventories, and communication with teachers,” Paredez explained.
“Sophomores and juniors will learn about the cost of college and be able to go through with interview practices as they go through high school and get a little older,” Thimmig adds.
The juniors have been particularly excited about this event as they state that help is needed as they continue to find jobs. Junior Daniel Zavala has been in Dream Team for six years and says that Dream Team has been extremely helpful in guiding him throughout his high school career. “While in middle school, (Dream Team) were able to help me get ready to manage time because I wasn’t ready for the workload that high school was going to throw at me,” Zavala shared. “Not only that as a junior it’s also helped me look at colleges and map out what my future plans could lead to me to once I become a senior.”
Junior Arely Mendiola has also been in Dream Team for six years but has been around Dream Team for longer than those six years.
“My sister was also in Dream Team both middle school and high school, so not only has she helped me prepare for high school, but I was able to see how she handled her senior year experience and how to manage it with minimal stress,” Mendiola explained.
Mendiola also shares that the lessons given are different than what you learn inside the classroom. “You learn about financial literacy, budgeting, and overall life skills. It’s something that you really don’t get inside the classroom unless you take specific classes,” Mendiola mentioned.
Mendiola also feels that it’s never too late to join Dream Team as they are always happy to help. “It’s never too late to join. We learn about what our options are after high school and it could benefit anybody,” Mendiola noted. “It continues to help me by going on campus visits that get me excited to go to college and get me introduced to the college lifestyle.”
Dream Team is ready to take on the wave of the next young adults to get them ready and prepared for life after high school. If help is needed the academic advisors Mia Paredez and Alan Thimmig can be found in room D 237 for information and inquiries on joining Dream Team.
