April Escalle is an AVID junior who manages a 4.0 GPA while also working at Wendy’s and taking higher level courses.
She shared her time management secrets. “It’s hard, but you learn how to cope with it. You do your homework during all the free time you have and usually I know my work schedule before the next week,” Escelle stated.
Escelle finds motivation in many places. “My biggest motivation has been friends, parents, and teachers. Usually Mr. Pace motivates me the most. This is because he is always positive about everything even when I’m in a bad mood and he’ll tell me to think on the positive side all the time,” Escelle said. “If I have to work a lot a certain week he tells me to stay positive and reminds me I have good grades.”
AVID teacher Pace had some things to say about his student. “April must be Hermione from Harry Potter with the time device because I don’t think there are enough hours in the day. April has just become so good at time management, she keeps a well organized planner and she just doesn’t waste time,” Pace stated.
Pace said Escelle trusts her teachers and mentors. “Her big accomplishment is her way of buying into everything we do. When I first met her she asked ‘why am I even in AVID?’ and now she is a leader in AVID and does a wonderful job. She is bought in with all of her classes,” Pace said. “April went from debating if college was the right choice for her to being someone who is going to college and is going to be incredibly successful,” Pace stated.
