The Greeley West Track season started over Spring Break and star runner/jumper Daniel Sandoval is looking to make some noise this season.
Sandoval is coming off a state appearance last season and holds offers from many colleges for track with Kentucky being his most recent offer.
However, Sandoval hopes to pursue his track career at Louisiana State University (LSU) and he explains what he needs to do this year to make that dream come true. “I have to put in extra extra work to go to LSU, right now I am at 23 ft with long jump. What they need is 24 ft 5 inches. So what I really need to do is focus on technique,” Sandoval explained.
Besides the LSU offer, Sandoval also looks to break school records this track season. “The school record for the 400 is 51 seconds and my fastest split is a 49 and for long jump I need to get three more inches and I will break that one. Then for triple jump, I need to just jump in a meet because right now I’m at 44 feet 8 inches and I think it’s 44 feet 6 inches so I will break that one when I jump in a meet,” Sandoval said.
Although Sandoval made state last year, he placed dead last in jumping and running. He explains how placing last will motivate him to win at state this year. “No one is going to look at me and remember me as the kid at state last year. I am going to make a statement. They are going to look at me and not expect a kid from Greeley to go to state and win.” Sandoval explained. “ I am trying to upset some big names this year.”
