As internships and work experience become a must for young adults in today’s world, students are learning lessons and skills from their clients at hardware stores. Young adults are often given the opportunity to have firsthand experience that goes beyond the simple classroom settings.
As demand rises for skilled tradesmen who worked as students in hardware stores can be used as a way to get into building contractor trade or home improvements.
Greeley West senior Alexis Delacruz said her job at Home Depot has taught her the importance of developing her personality. “I have learned how to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, solve problems on the spot and work together within groups,” Delacruz said.
Senior Jaime Ramirez highlighted the practical knowledge he has gained while working at a local hardware store Ace. “I’ve learned so much about tools, materials, and construction techniques that I wouldn’t have been exposed to in my classes,” he shared. “Being able to help customers with their projects and provide them with advice has been incredibly rewarding.”
Another senior Elijah Tellez spoke about the sense of responsibility he has gained through his job at a Lowe’s. “I’ve learned how important showing up on time matters and paying attention to details,” Tellez explained. “These are skills that will serve me well in any future i pursue.”
The hardware store experience offers students a unique opportunity to learn grow and develop essential skills that will benefit them long after their time behind the counter has ended as they navigate the challenges and rewards of working in a retail environment they are building a foundation for a bright and promising future.
