SATs are coming up quickly. Testing for grades 9, 10, and 11 will be the week of April 8th.
Greeley West has a program to help students prepare for the big test. The program meets on Thursdays after school from 4-5:30, in room A-003. It was created by Ms. Michelle Hillin, a social studies teacher at West.
The program is open to anyone who would like the extra help. Hillin explained the purpose of the program. “This program is more strategy based. The SAT test is more of a ‘How can you use clues to solve this’ rather than ‘How much do you know,’ and we want to help these students build those strategies and skills,” Hillin explained.
Tests for students can be very stressful and it affects the way students take these tests and their performance on them. This program is designed to build students out of that stressful and panic mode of tests, to help improve their scores. Most of the students who attend the program are juniors, although it is designed for everyone.
Many juniors are panicking right now due to the SATs coming up sooner than they expected. Amelia Peters, one of those juniors, explained her feeling about the SAT. “It’s a lot sooner than I expected, and it’s kind of scary how close we are to being done with school. This test is the biggest one and I think this program is going to be super helpful with students who struggle with test anxiety,” Peters said.
