The Boettcher Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship Colorado has to offer. This past week, Greeley West had the opportunity to congratulate senior Aidan Datteri on winning the scholarship.
After going through the long process, Datteri heard the news last Wednesday night when he saw there was a letter in the mail for him. “Competing for the scholarship is pretty long, there are three interviews and it’s been about five months since applying for the scholarship,” Datteri stated.
While Datteri has a wide range of activites in his portfolio, he believed his commitment to multiple organizations at once mad him stand out. “My portfolio is pretty diverse. It may sound cliche in a way, but I don’t know a lot of FFA members who also do theater and who could also sing in a musical,” Datteri stated.
As Datteri is looking to his future next year, he plans on attending CSU for college. “I’m going to attend CSU and study agriculture business there but I’m also hoping to run for state office in June (for FFA). If I do get elected as state officer, then I will defer the scholarship for a year and would jump back into school the following year,” Datteri said.
Ms. Tiffanie Beecher is one of the people who wrote Datteri a letter of recommendation for the scholarship and has also been working with him since 6th grade. “I heard the same day he found out. He called me after he read the mail,” Beecher said.
As someone who’s known him for years Beecher was pleased with writing the letter on his behalf. “I was honored, but I was also stressed to be asked to write a letter of recommendation for such a prestigious scholarship. I have been working with Aidan since he was a 6th grader but I have been able to see him grow,” Beecher said.
Beecher is someone who has been able to see Datteri “venture out” in different ways around the school and the community. “What makes Aidan stand out is the vast array of different things he is willing to try. He’s in the FFA and does the leadership board for all of that, he ventured into the theater world and engrossed his way into all of that, academically he is top notch, and he has also been an athlete over these past couple of years,” Beecher said. “Overall he works to be as well rounded as possible and he brings a lot to the table so I believe the Boettcher team saw that.”
