Last Wednesday, AVID sophomores went on a college field trip to Colorado State University. AVID is a program that helps students prepare for college. Visiting college campuses is a big part of understanding what college life is really like.
AVID sophomores got a tour and got to eat in the dining hall. Tour guides were CSU students who were able to give the students another perspective of their life on campus.
AVID sponsor, Mr. Joel Suarez believes that visiting CSU was a great opportunity for students to see what they are working for in high school. “AVID helps students get ready for college and career. Students can’t really know what it’s like if they don’t visit it in person,” Suarez shared.
Students were excited to experience what their futures could look like as a college student. “This was a great opportunity to see if CSU was the right choice of college for us in the future so we have a better idea of what we want when we’re a junior or senior,” AVID student Kamila Navarro shared.
Students also believe that touring a campus helps them decide whether or not they want to have a future career in a college. “Touring a college campus is really important because it allows students to think about what campus is right for them. It can also show students whether or not college is even the right pathway for them,” AVID student Delylah Ruiz explains.
Touring CSU was eye-opening to many students. They are excited to experience more opportunities like this in the future when they tour other universities. “I’m really excited we got to have this experience, and can’t wait for the next trip,” Ruiz shared.
