It’s to celebrate and honor the students of 2024. Greeley West High School’s graduation is set for May 25 at 12 p.m.
Senior students have received an email about graduation and all the expectations including rules and dress codes expected for the students to follow. It states that they may not wear heels on the UNC turf field and it explains that non-formal wear is not appropriate for this event, including tennis shoes and flip flops.
Furthermore, Greeley West has its own traditions they would like students to follow. Students may not decorate their caps/gowns, with penatlies that could include taking away a senior’s participation in the ceremony.
Some students don’t understand why they can’t wear what they want for this day. Senior Emelyn Montano said that girls especially have had a hard time dealing with the rules of wearing heels as it’s been so common for generations. “But I don’t mind,” Montano said. “i don’t want to fall, but this does takeaway from seniors who did it want and puts restrictions on their outfit.”
Senior Kadine Coreas said that the dress code doesn’t let kids show their style and stand out to others.” I think we should allow students to dress how they would like and give them the opportunity to stand out to feel as big as our accomplishments,” Coreas said.
