Greeley West students will be able to participate in Walk & Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8.
Thousands of schools around the nation have joined Walk & Bike to School Day, which is a day where the school encourages everyone who can, to walk or bike to school. The day was brought about to try and strengthen, and better our community.
School wellness coordinator Ms. Lea Sanford is one of the main factors in Greeley West participating in the event. “I am working with (Mr. Tom) Nugent to achieve our goal of encouraging students and staff to get to school in an eco-friendly way,” Sanford stated. “We are looking into prizes and incentives for those who participate. Plus our future is going to be gas-free, so we are just preparing for the future on a beautiful May day.”
The event is a fairly simple one, but done the right way it can benefit hundreds of people, and it may even create long-lasting memories.
Most elementary schools participated in Walk & Bike to School Day, so for many this day will be a blast from the past. Many used to bike to school with their families, so this high school event will resonate with many.
Having hundreds of kids walk and bike instead of driving to school would benefit the environment way more than we truly think. A day where hundreds of cars are not being used could truly purify some of the air we breathe.
Staff encourages students, and their fellow co-workers to participate in Walk & Bike to School Day, to better us, and our community.
