Greeley West is proud to announce that they will be hosting Teen Police Academy Training! It will take place in the summer from June 10-13 for students in grades 9-12.
The Police Academy allow participating students to get an “inside perspective” on the police force. Participants will be doing a tour and given explanations about all the different areas and opportunities that come with being a part of the police force.
Throughout the week, students in the police academy will be shown presentations from, the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiations Unit, K9, and the Bomb Team. There will also be presentations from the Greeley Fire Department, Ambulance, and other departments that work closely with the Greeley Police Department.
Each student will be provided with lunch, a Greeley Police Department T-shirt, and an evidence collection. The students will be doing many activities throughout the academy. They will be given an opportunity to go to UNC and complete a similar ropes course that real police officers would be doing in their training. They will be doing SWAT, negotiation, and bomb demos, and other things similar to what police officers do in their own training.
This program is a good opportunity for any students who are interested in entering the law enforcement field. It is something that could potentially put these students ahead in preparation for a criminal justice program in college or a police training program. Its also an amazing way to be involved in the Greeley community and make new friends.
