Boy’s basketball is already off to a strong start in the offseason. They have held multiple open gyms. Most of the athletes are returning players.
The schedule for summer team camps was recently released. The camps will be held in Yuma, Strasburg, Estes Park and Grand Junction. There is also a camp at UNC which allows the athletes to stay locally during the summer. Last year, the team participated in the Power to Play League and Frontier’s League. Theyplan to do the same this year.
At freshman orientation, the boy’s basketball team and coaches worked to recruit incoming freshman. It seemed like there were several freshman interested in playing basketball. Hopefully they will attend the upcoming open gyms and other summer activities.
Coming off of last year’s 2-21 season, the boy’s basketball team hopes to grow their chemistry to have a more successful season. The boy’s basketball team has not had more than six wins in a season since the 2019-2020 school year. The team had 18 wins in the 2018-2019 season when Andre Sepeda went to Greeley West. Sepeda is now a coach for the boy’s basketball team.
In the 2018-2019 season the team was ranked 3rd in the 5A Front Range League and 47th in Colorado. Last year’s team did move up a division to 6A and was ranked 53rd in the 6A class and 230th in Colorado.
