All the schools are a part of SRP, Greeley West, Central, and Northridge.
There is a limit to how many kids can join SRP per summer. Each school is allowed 20 new students each summer so there will be 60 new SRP students this summer.
SRP is funded in two ways: their general operating budget comes from the school districts MLO funds. Includes staffing, supplies and their online programming. And from a philanthropist Bob Tointon and foundations for summer incentives (money the students receive for finishing their classes). Tointon has been generously supporting SRP since their inception in 2007. The backing from all their stakeholders helps provide individualized support to SRP students.
They have summer school starting june 5th all the way to july 25th. The days are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. so they get to have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
During this time they provide lunch. They eat in the UNC cafeteria and have different food choices and also desserts choices and drinks.
And during SRP, students can earn money while you are doing your work. For instance, a stduent will make 100$ per class they finish. They are able to do as much classes that they need.
They also have a day that the kids may play basketball in the gym or may decide to swim. Not only that they have a field trip to CYO (Colorado Youth Outdoors ) where they have archery, BB guns, and fishing.
One of the SRP advocates, Madelynne Marsden said, “Kids should take advantage of the summer program with SRP because it’s a great opportunity to get close with staff and other SRP students. They can earn their credits and know some staff for the school year.”
A Jr in SRP, Miguel Cardenas said, “I never really thought that someone would be there to help me the way SRP advocates do. I am glad to of got some credits back through the summer so it may help me for when it is time to graduate and makes the next school year easier. And gets you a head start for the next year.”
