Greeley West High School’s music students celebrated music with a Battle of the Band event last week. Greeley West’s Tri-M Music Honor Society, a musical service group decided this event would be an excellent opportunity to showcase Greeley West’s hidden musical talents.
Battle of the Bands was a competition of musical groups to fight for the title of the best band in the school. Any musical group was welcome to join the competition in the hope of gaining support for bigger events next year.
Tri-M and Battle of the Bands sponsor, Mr. Thomas Nugent, has big plans for the future of this event. “Next year we will have music live for lunch every Friday. We hope that by next year, Battle of the Bands will be an after-school event outside, partnered with Student Council and food trucks,” Nugent shared.
Tri-M students believe Battle of the Bands is an excellent way to spread musical creativity. “Not everyone is familiar with different genres of music. This event brings people together in an unexpected way. It spreads music throughout our school, which is extremely important and fun to experience,” Tri-M member Sofia Vasquez explained.
Participants in the Battle of the Bands believe this event was a good way to showcase their talents and inspire others to do the same. “I hope people realize that it’s cool to do something out of your comfort zone and it isn’t embarrassing to show your cool talents. Plus it was really fun,” sophomore guitarist Hailey Ratliff shared.
Battle of the Bands is far from over. If you liked experiencing live music from Greeley West’s talented music students and would like to share your musical talent, contact Nugent for more details about future events.
