While most people enjoy listening to online music these days, students at Greeley West have started to join a vinyl club to appreciate nostalgic music the old fashioned way. These students are able to experience any type of music, while loving vinyls, socializing, and studying with people they thought they would have maybe never met.
Members of this club dedicate every Thursday to come in with one of their own records ranging from hip hop to alternative rock, and spin it for the whole club to listen to. Senior Juan Carlos Ramirez, who is a member of Wax Pack, explained that the diversity of the club makes it so special. “Really when you’re collecting vinyls, there’s so many different types of genre of music and you get introduced with so many different music types where you kind of get interested in exploring outside of the traditional pop music,” said Ramirez.
The Wax Pack has quickly gained popularity as well, attracting students of all grade levels who are eager to listen and learn new music. Junior Xero Krien said, “I joined Wax Pack because I just like music. I collect a lot of music. I think I have a Discogs collection on the edge of becoming (worth) 9,000 dollars. I have 200 plus records and 700 plus CDs. I have a ton of music in my possession.”
Krien also explained that Wax Pack is more than just a club and is also a community thing. “You get to meet other people and what music they like. For example, there’s this one kid – we call him Pearl Jam Sam (Merritt) – and he likes to bring in a lot of Pearl Jam records, ” Krien said.
Wax Pack hopes to continue to grow at Greeley West and unite music and vinyl loving kids of all ages. If the Club Rush on Wednesday was any indication, numbers will be higher when the club meets after school in A-107.
