Greeley West is home to more than its full-time students. Homeschoolers Harrison Barnett, Sarah Reinhard, and Logan Chance all attend West strictly for performing arts classes and activities.
At Greeley West, Barnett is involved in marching band, choir, and theater. He has performed in musicals, concerts, competitions, and contests through Greeley West. After moving from Pennsylvania, Barnett heard of Greeley Wests’ musical programs, which initiated his decision to participate in the school’s arts programs. “I heard about it through my church and how the entire performing arts was very good,” Barnett said.
Senior thespian, Sarah Reinhard, has been a part of Greeley West theater since her seventh grade year as a member of the original cast of Matilda. “ My piano teacher, Ms. Kim, told me about Matilda because they needed kids for the show, so I auditioned and got in,” Reinhard said. After the cancellation of the show in 2020, Reinhard found her way back to the Greeley West stage in 2022 to finish what she started.
Although it wasn’t an easy process to be able to consistently participate in Greeley West’s theater program, Reinhard knows it was worth it. “I have really enjoyed taking the theater class, participating in Car Caravan, and going to Thescon; all of which I would not have been able to do as just a homeschooled student,” claimed Reinhard.
Logan Chance, another senior thespian, began performing with Greeley West only last year, his first show being Mean Girls. He learned about Greeley West theater’s great reputation through his friend, Reinhard. “The program at West had a reputation for being family friendly in their choice of productions,” said Chance.
After considering other schools’ theater programs, Chance firmly decided on Greeley West. “It was a hard decision, but in the end, I found the theater community, director, and students to be more inviting,” Chance stated.
