The Greeley West orchestra program were given an amazing opportunity to use their stellar talents by performing the National Anthem at the Colorado Rockies game on September 18.
The Rockies had reached out to high schools across the state to have their performers play the anthem. Avid sports fan, Mr. Tom Nugent was quick to sign up his orchestra.
Students were excused from class for the entire day so that they could arrive at the stadium hours before they performed. The students were given a Rockies t-shirt, and went down to the field where they played the National Anthem. Junior Delylah Ruiz felt that this was an amazing opportunity and an experience that everyone in the orchestra wouldn’t forget. “I enjoyed this experience, and the orchestra played amazingly, putting on a great show for the people to see,” Ruiz stated.
Orchestra members had to pay for the ticket to stay, so many took advantage of that.
For most of the students, this was the only time they’ve played in front of a huge amount of people. Junior Zachary McGonigal felt that this experience was great for everyone, and it was especially nerve-racking to be in front of such a huge crowd. “I’ve never played in front of this many people before. My heart was pounding when I stepped onto the field,” McGonigal said. “ Even though it was nerve racking I would love to play for the Colorado Rockies again.”
