Throughout Hispanic Herritage month, Ms. Naomy Lopez’s AP Spanish Culture and Language students took on an exciting new project to mix their artistic talent with their Spanish-speaking skills. In the process, they reseached background knowledge of Spanish-speaking countries and made a mask representing those different countries.
“I wanted to get my students to know more about other cultures from other countries,” Lopez explained. “They did an investigation about the flag, their traditions, their typical dishes, food, stuff like that.”
Lopez hoped to inspire students through the project and to call attention to Spanish-speaking countires around the world.
“I definitely learned a lot about the country and got to express my artistic skills,” sophomore Emily Torres stated. “Seeing other countries’ masks I learned more about other countries and learned how many countries have their own different cultures.”
Senior Ximena Amacende said the activity provided an opportunity for her to show her artistic side. “I liked getting to know more about Spain,” Amacende said. “But the truth is that I consider myself a person who likes to draw and paint, and I knew that I would be able how to make a good representation and presentation of Spain.”
