Greeley West’s Cosmetology Club is more than just a gathering of beauty enthusiasts. It’s a community where creativity and confidence can expand to empower students through the art of beauty. This club allows students to explore their cosmetology passion while building skills for a potential future career.
New Cosmetology Club sponsor, Ms. Sadie McGowin, hosts a variety of different workshops like hair, makeup, and nails to provide a creative outlet to express individuality. “Students are introduced and taught basic concepts from all these areas. They will be able to build upon these skills as the year goes on and we add in more concepts. We are lucky to have a cosmetologist leading our club to bring in an industry perspective.”
The Cosmetology Club dedicates every Thursday at 4 p.m. in room E-132 to build a fostering community of beauty. “My favorite part is how supportive everyone is and just a really good community,” said sophomore Elizabeth McKnight, who said she wants to be a hairstylist in a future career.
The club has also created a schedule where they dedicate a specific skill to a month this semester. “We have created a schedule so that each month has a theme; September- Hair, October- Makeup, November- Nails, December- Waxing. We are just getting started! Last week we did hair tinsel,” said McGowin.
The Cosmetology Club is one of the biggest at West. McGowin said this is because, “Students are voicing their ideas everyday and we are just facilitating and creating a schedule. Cosmetology is such a popular career and interest and we are lucky enough to have a student body that loves it as much as I!”
Cosmetology Club is a way for students to be fully themselves while tapping into their creativity through beauty.
