Senior Summer Lamb is involved in many things at Greeley West, the most meaningful being unified electives and sports.
Lamb began participating in unified sports and classes to spend more time with her brother, Edward, at school. Lamb’s brother takes only unified classes, so she decided to take art and P.E with him. Lamb also participated in Unified Bowling and Basketball. “I loved Unified Bowling because I feel like it’s such a fun sport that everyone can do in their own way,” Lamb explained.
Unified Art teacher Julie Hagemeister has loved having Lamb in class. “Summer has been a part of Unified Art for two years now. She took some art classes in her own educational background so she’s a great helper,” Hagemeister said.
Lamb’s support for her classmates is demonstrated in school and out. When on a field trip to the Butterfly Pavilion last year, Lamb stepped up to make the experience positive and memorable. Hagemeister noted, “She was a big help with her brother Edward.”
Unified electives and sports hold a special place in Lamb’s heart. Her experience has broadened her perspective and has allowed her to create relationships that she normally wouldn’t have been able to. “You really get to know them all personally, and now I have great friendships with all of the kids in there,” Lamb said.
It is really important to Lamb that she’s in unified classes so she can learn how kids can participate differently in the same activities. “I think it’s really cool to be introduced to all different kinds of kids and to the different ways they learn and the different ways they’re unique,” said Lamb.
