With Greeley West going all IB, it’s placed a lot of the AP classes in the freshman and sophomore years. That means our scores are comparted to junior and seniors’ scores around the country. No wonder we don’t get the college credit that is always advertised. This week, we take a look at some of the best AP classes West has to offer.
5 – AP Human Geography
AP Human Geography is a great first AP class for underclassmen because it’s easy and you just have to use your brain. Unfortunately, most freshmen come unprepared without the ability to write essays or think clearly. At the same time, they are blindsided by having to do homework for the first time in their lives. Some figure it out, others aren’t as lucky.
4 – AP Computer Science Principles
AP Computer Science Principles is a class about coding and technology. It’s supposed to be one of the easiest AP classes but if you saw the grades from last year, you might disagree. Now that the kids who are taking the class actually signed up for it, things are going better.
3 – AP Biology
Thanks to Mr. Knoblock for having the entire class planned out from Day 1. Students taking this class need to make sure they get a notebook that has at least 111 pages because that’s all you’ll need. His lesson planning is meticulous. The class also comes with the largest textbook in any AP class you’ll take; don’t worry, only a few actually ever use it.
2 – AP Psychology
This class is like a soap opera – Mr. Wagner never stops yapping. Want to know about the time Wagner got kicked out of UNC? He’ll talk about it. Maybe that one time he broke into Mr. Falter’s house when they were young? Definitely a highlight. And the only kid he talks more about than his own is Cranson’s. So it’s like being on a real couch with a real psychologist. Your teacher is just the person sitting on it.
1 – AP US History
AP US History used to be one of the best AP classes at the school because it was always fun and entertaining. But now that Ms. Sanford is gone on maternity leave, it’s hard to learn with a different substitute every day. It’s still better than any IB classes, though.
