For years people of all grades have been able to eat off campus lunch at Greeley West High School. They were able to go out, hang out with all their friends and come back to school after a good meal. A few years ago, freshmen and sophomores lost the ability to leave campus, leaving this to be an experience for the upper classmen only. Along with that, the lunch time was largely diminished as well making it harder for students to eat off campus.
Every day students come to school not only to learn but to be with their friends and have a good day at school. It becomes difficult when you have to figure out what lunch one another has, and seeing if you have it together.
For the incoming freshman looking for the “high school experience” after having to eat in their middle school cafeterias every day, they look forward to being able to leave campus and eat something other than the meals the kitchen preps. When they arrive at West to start the brand new year, they’re hit with the fact they can’t leave the school. On top of that, they can’t eat with their friends at lunch since they’re split. One unified lunch needs to make a return, especially with a time extension. When the students leave for lunch they want to eat with their friends, specifically the ones that they may not have any classes with. Also they want to be able to eat their lunch in peace and have a good downtime before having to return to class.
When lunch comes around, every student looks forward to their downtime, but since the time was diminished to a little, 40 minutes lunch is too short especially for the Spartans that are allowed off campus. It causes people to rush and drive dangerously to get to their destination which could lead to accidents. The students need their lunch to have them relax and prepare for the rest of their day. We all should be able to eat lunch comfortably whether at school or off campus, also able to have lunch with all of our friends instead of being split up every day. We should all be able to have the same opportunities as we once had.
