Colorado Free Application Day for all seniors started today and runs through Thursday. Seniors at Greeley West High school have the opportunity to apply to any 32 public Colorado schools.
The program helps students access higher level education regardless how much money they have. Senior counselor Ms. Hannah Rivera thinks this is amazing to take advantage of. “Seniors should take advantage of free application day because it offers significant financial savings and greater opportunities. College application fees can quickly add up, especially for students applying to multiple schools. Free application day eliminates these costs, allowing students to apply to a variety of colleges without worrying about the financial burden.”
According to Rivera, students who are unsure whether they want to attend college but still want to keep their options open, one of the best approaches is to apply to a few colleges during free application days or with fee waivers, even if they’re undecided. This keeps the option on the table without a financial commitment. “Exploring various types of institutions, such as community colleges, technical schools, or trade programs, can also be beneficial, as these offer shorter and often more affordable paths to education and career readiness,” Rivera said.
Senior Aliana Lawnier finds this day helpful especially as an AVID student. “It is reassuring to know that I don’t have to pay for in-state applications because it just checks one thing off the list.”
Is this something all seniors should take advantage of? Lawler said yes, “Free application day is so important for those who might not be able to afford applying to colleges since some can be up to hundreds of dollars.”
Senior awareness about post-secondary opportunities does not end with Colorado Free Application Day. Next week, seniors are required to attend the District 6 2025 Jumpstart. This event is held from 8:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m and will help seniors apply for their FAFSA, scholarships, workforce, and provide help with college essays and resume writing.
