This fall has become huge for gamers with several exciting releases coming into the market. Titles such as Starfield, Spider-Man 2, and Mortal Kombat 1 have become the main talking point among gamers worldwide. High school students are especially attracted to these, given all the amazing graphics, engaging storylines, and challenging gameplays-just about everything a teenager would want in a video game. But how do these video games affect high school students?
For many students, video gaming is one of the best ways to kill time in an entertaining way after a long day of classes and homework. After studying for hours, it’s nice to unwind with a game like Spider-Man 2. Some video games encourage critical thinking and teamwork, especially if the game is a multiplayer or strategy game. Fortnite and League of Legends need players to work together in order to win, which teaches how to communicate and solve problems.
On the other hand, concerns also arise on how excessive gaming can have negative impacts. Where a good amount of time is spent in front of the screens with video games, the same amount is taken out of important study time or physical activity. Some students even admit to staying up late to beat a mission or quest, which can lead to sleep and concentration problems at school.
While these may be quite entertaining and instructionally enriching, students must balance such games with other responsibilities. Playing in moderation, setting time limits, and focusing on schoolwork first can help students enjoy new video game releases without letting them negatively impact their education.
