Could you imagine a class being close enough that they joined together and celebrated Halloween with a group costume? Mr. Ryan Pace’s senior AVID class joined together and stole the moon, wait I mean Halloween. They planned to dress as Despicable Me, which was Gru and his Minions. As this class has spent the last four years together, they have found themselves to grow closer than most.
As this is Pace’s first AVID class, he has found a deep connection with them that has truly brought the class together. “Getting to be an AVID teacher with the students I have has made me find love in my job,” Pace stated.
Pace (with the help of his class) secured first place in the individual costume contest, voted on by students.
Since freshman year, it had been brought up a couple times to do a class costume, but the idea didn’t come to life until their senior year. “I’m so glad that the class feels close enough to where they can help arrange this their senior year,” Pace stated.
Annalyn Parker is a part of this senior AVID class. When she joined her junior year after her class merged with Pace’s she still found a community in the class that helped make it a family. “I personally loved (the idea for the costume)! We all got a lot of compliments & laughs and giggles. I had a ton of fun and I hope that all AVID classes in the future can use our class as an example as a strong-family like AVID class,” Parker stated.
Nohemi Aguirre has been in Paces AVID since her freshman year. Since then, she’s grown with the class and was the one who insisted on the costume. “The feeling is great overall that we could all dress up. I never thought I was going to get so attached to a class, but to me they’re like family,” Aguirre stated.
Most of these students have gone through the same class since their freshman year, with a few people in and out. “I feel that meeting each other since we were freshmen has really brought us together. It really built trust in each other in and out of the classroom, this helped everyone execute the idea,” Aguirre said.
