For most students, high school life means balancing schoolwork, friends, and personal hobbies. But for Corbin Suntych, a Greeley West senior, that balance has reached a whole new level. As a member of the IB program, Corbin isn’t just studying for his diploma, his journey to graduation involves one of the toughest curriculums, pushing his academic, mental, and personal strength daily.
“I was inspired to join by those who have previously gone through the program and have seen how it is able to challenge you and prepare you for college,” Suntych said. This desire to exceed beyond the expectations has defined his high school journey, where critical thinking and global ideas guide his education. From writing his Extended Essay, a major research project that requires skill and discipline, to creating an original play in his theatre class with classmates, he has embraced every challenge that IB has to offer.
Balancing the heavy workload has been one of Suntych’s biggest challenges. “The hardest part of being an IB student is the workload as this can be straining and put a heavy weight on your shoulders but can be overcome bit by bit slowly pushing through it.” he says. To manage, he uses free time during the school day, limits distractions, and asks for help when he needs it.
One of his proudest accomplishments? Simply sticking with it. “My proudest accomplishment is the fact that I have gotten through IB and have been able to endure all that has come and will be able to get through the rest of the program.” Suntych believes that IB has prepared him to face challenges and shaped his plans. “IB has shaped my plans for the future as it tells me that I am capable of taking challenging classes and that I can push through challenges and obstacles.”
To underclassmen thinking about IB, Corbin advises,”I would tell them to consider whether they are willing to put in extra work to prepare themselves for the future and are willing to be challenged.”
