Greeley West High School offers lots of classes for students to take to understand what path they want to take after graduation. Ermiyas Tesfaselassie has found his love for photography through his Yearbook class.
Athletes at Greeley West love to have their pictures taken and having such a close person taking pictures allows students to feel comfortable when “posing” for these pictures. With this new love developed he was able to do multiple students’ senior photos. Tesfaselassie has documented soccer games, cheerleaders, football games and volleyball games. Making memories is his main focus so how has photography helped with this? In his words, “Showing up to school and sporting events has allowed me to capture memories for people and being able to share the photos with them has allowed me to give a gift almost.”
Tesfaselassie tookYyearbook with only little idea of what to do he openly expresses the surprise discovery. “I didn’t expect to get into photography my senior year. I was just excited to be apart of Yearbook and when I got into taking photos of student and assemblies, it brought me joy and I decided why not push forward with that?” Tesfaselassie said.
Being a senior, Tesfaselassie has made academics his main priority and he agrees this class allowed him to end his high school years with something fun. Will he take photography with him after high school? “I definitely want to keep photography in mind after high school. There’s room for me to grow and I don’t want to end my journey at the end of the school year. And there’s so much more I think I can do with this hobby.”
Tesfaselassie ended with this thought,” With taking many photos for the yearbook, I’ve been active on social media making a photography Instagram account to post leftover photos I have.”
