Last week, the IB Music and Film classes went to the Mass FX Media Building in Downtown Denver for a field trip to learn more about the production process of films. This experience helped many of the students understand this field much more.
The trip to Mass FX Media has the students learning about much of what goes on behind the scenes and all the hard work that goes into what they see on screen. From the teachers perspective, Mr. Thomas Nugent spoke on all the work that went into the behind the scenes, all the elements that are apart of the process, which became very eye opening to many students. “A live look at the behind the scenes work that goes into production of films. They are a post production company that focuses on sound, color, and visual effects,” Nugent said, “I think it changes how they view movies, commercials, and the tedious amounts of work that go into the creative process.”
From a students eye, the items they learned about made them respect the process into film production more. The experience with learning about certain elements was an experience like no other. Senior Zavin Ontiveros felt that it was an eye opening experience learning about the use of Dolby speakers. “The things they spoke about at Mass FX was a revolutionary sound system developed by Dolby called Dolby Atmos, it is a surround system that allows sound to travel around the room to immerse yourself in the movie. If there is rain, it will sound like it is above you and it is the trippiest thing ever,” Ontiveros stated.
