Reymundo Ocampo-Flores, a standout junior at Greeley West High School, has advanced to a spot at the highly competitive DECA state finals, where he impressed the judges with his expertise in the Human Resource Management category.
Ocamp-Flores spent countless hours dedicated to studying and preparing his skills for the DECA competition, determined to surpass his performance from last year. “This year, without a doubt, I was way more uneasy with the idea of failure due to my performance last year setting a clear presence for my capabilities,” Ocampo Flores shared. “However, it is my belief that if a person is not confident in their victory, then it will never come.”
Competing in the Human Resource Management Series, Ocamp Flores had faced intense role play scenarios that tested his ability in quick thinking and his ability to handle complex business challenges.”This year, I chose Human Resource Management Series for my category. It’s basically a step up from the event I performed in last year with an emphasis on people themselves,” explained Ocampo-Flores.”I chose this topic because it is my belief that no matter what goal you wish to accomplish, you need to interact with others.”
To prepare for the competition, Ocampo-Flores used a strategic approach, saying he spent time studying key HR concepts and watching educational videos to ensure that he could handle any scenario thrown at him.”The best way I have found to prepare for DECA competitions is to memorize the fundamentals and principles of whichever event you decide to compete in,” shared Ocampo-Flores.”With these fundamentals in mind, I was able to effectively apply theme to the specific role play I was given.”
Reflecting on Ocampo-Flores experience, he credited DECA for helping him develop important professional skills,”When it comes to my career plans, DECA above all will always be consistent in preparing you on how to act, talk, and think in a professional environment.”
