As my high school draws to a close, the emotions running through my teammates and I are as varied as they are sincere. For me, this time marks an era filled with unforgettable memories, hard fought victories and also the tough losses, many highs and lows, and the camaraderie and growth that only a team sport can foster.
My final game in a Greeley West Spartan jersey was mixed with pride, joy, sadness, and nostalgia and signified not just the end of a series of games, but the culmination of countless hours of practice, the molding of deep friendships, and the creation of memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. Watching my teammates pour their hearts and pushing ourselves to the limit into this sport has been nothing short of inspiring. Every game and every practice has been a step towards becoming better athletes and better teammates. The bond we share as a team is something truly special, built on support of every person on the team, and a shared love of the game.
For us seniors, the end of this season is particularly emotional. Going from barely having a winning record our freshman year to getting to state two years in a row both in 4A and 5A has truly been a dream come true. I have grown up on the Spartan softball field not just as an athlete but as a student too, and most importantly as a person. I’ve learned the important life lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and leadership. As I prepare to move onto my next chapter of softball at the University of Northern Colorado, I carry near and dear to my heart the memories of every victory, every challenge, and every moment of friendship.
I feel an immense sense of gratitude towards my coaches, who have been my mentors and guides all throughout this journey. Assistant coach Brian Holmes has truly taught me what it means to be a Spartan and one phrase has always stuck with me that he says. “Once a Spartan, always a Spartan.” Head coach Hannah Rivera taught me more in one season of coaching than most people have in their lifetime and I wish I could have had her for many more seasons. Their dedication and belief in me have been unwavering, and they’ve taught me more than just how to play softball-they’ve taught me how to be a strong and resilient individual.
As I close this chapter, I look back with a heart full of memories and look forward with excitement or the future. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey but it’s just the beginning. Here’s to the end of an amazing season and the beginning of new adventures.
