As seniors are getting ready for graduation, there’s a reminder that their class is the last one to have been in the old building. At the end of their freshman year, they started transitioning to the new building, but still had the memories. After this class graduates, there are only going to be teachers and a few students who will remember the building that started Greeley West High School.
Senior Jeremy Piacenza had four of his older siblings walk the halls of the old building and graduate. Piacenza stated how he thinks “it’s kind of weird” how his class is the last to have been in the building. He talked about how, “people won’t know the struggle of that building and the different pieces of it”.
Ms. Izbeth Pacheco is a social studies teacher at West but she is also a part of the Greeley West class of 2017. With the seniors graduating, she feels as though it’s like “closing of a previous chapter.” Pacheco is sad at the thought of the “old West potentially being gone.” With the seniors graduating, the memories are only going to be with staff.
Senior Chloe Jaramillo’s dad graduated in 2001 and the old building meant a lot to her. “It’s crazy to know the kids younger than us won’t get that experience. It was truly spirited. The old Greeley West truly showed true spirit,” Jaramillo stated.
Mr. Don Wagner is one of the teachers who’s been at the school the longest. After this year he is retiring with the class of 2025. “It’s crazy to think that the seniors are the last class to be in the building, but I’m glad I get to go out with them,” Wagner stated.
