Around Greeley West High school, upperclassmen have the opportunity to become a Teacher’s Aide. Being a TA has its perks for the students who choose to become one. Some of those perks include being able to help out a teacher, and if the teacher does not have any things for you to do then you do nothing, catch up on homework, or watch a show.
For a teacher, TAs prove quite the help around the classroom and be handy in helping the class move smoother for the teacher. Mr. Ky Dietz said that for him, TAs are very helpful, helping around the classroom. Dietz also sees it as a good way for a teacher to know the student without the many expectations of a regular class. “I do enjoy having TAs; I get to know them better, and also they get to learn what they can do to help the classroom run,” Dietz stated.
For students to be a TA, first you need to be an upperclassman. After that you’d be able to choose who you want, and if you want you could try to be an office TA or a counselor office TA. Senior Oscar Mendoza is a counselor TA and helps out around there. Mendoza enjoys helping out in the counselor’s office. “I walk around the school handing out passes for students. I enjoy helping out the counselors,” Mendoza said.
Senior Daniel Franco helps out in the office as an office TA. Franco helps to go and get the mail and run passes to students in classes. He likes being able to walk around the school all period and help out with what the office needs. “I like my time helping out in the office. I get to walk around the school all class running passes and getting mail,” Franco stated.
In the classroom, senior Makai Mireles enjoys his time helping out his teachers being a TA both last year and this year. Mireles loves the free time when he’s not helping out being able to do homework or nothing. “I love being a TA. I get to help out with hanging up posters and if I’m not helping in the classroom, it’s a free period for me to catch up on work,” Mireles said.
Being a TA is a good way to help out with teachers around the classroom. Dietz thinks it’s a good opportunity to be a part in helping a class function. “It helps with getting to know your teachers better and being able to see what we need to do to keep the class running smoothly,” Dietz said.
