Last month, Open Enrollment for 2025-2026 school year opened for Greeley-Evans School District 6. There’s an application process students and parents must complete if their students want to attend a school that’s outside their boundary area.
Open Enrollement gives an opportunity to have students attend the school of their choice if they please but it must be complete by December 19. Parents typically hear back in February about the application results.
Senior Gavin Petersen is a student who chose to attend Greeley West when it was not his boundary school. During his eighth grade year he made the decision to go to Greeley West because, “I didn’t want to go to the same high school as my sister.”
Petersen also had friends from middle school that he wanted to go to the same high school with. “What also persuaded me was my friends I had in eighth grade that were going to West so I wanted to be with them,” Petersen said.
Ermiyas Tesfaselassie is also a senior that applied for open enrollment to Greeley West rather than going to Greeley Central. “I have four older siblings, they all were graduates of West. So there was already a familiarity with the school and knowing that West had more opportunities for IB and dual enrollment helped support my decision,” Tesfaselassie stated.
Sophomore Daniela Ramirez decided to attend Greeley West for high school, as her boundary school is Greeley Central. “My friend helped me convince my mom to attend West,” Ramirez stated.
