As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving and community support grows more clear and prominent. One organization that embodies this spirit and commitment is Serve 6.8, a community-focused family of 55 churches coming together to help those in need. This Christmas, Serve 6.8 does another year of heartwarming campaigns to collect and donate gifts to families who might otherwise go without.
The way Serve 6.8 works is creating a strong network of churches that are willing to meet the needs of the community by giving and maximizing resources from other local and business partners. Churches pull these resources from the larger Service 6.8 network to provide that direct care to their neighbors. This then allows individuals and families to connect with their neighborhood churches to receive the resources and find a community to belong to and hear the gospels’ message.
The goal of Serve 6.8 is to mobilize and respond to local and national needs by creating these ‘adopt a family’ paper cutout shirts and spread them out through different communities, businesses, churches, etc. Ways that these businesses and communities contribute is putting up small Christmas trees and hanging the Serve 6.8 shirts.
The main values that Serve 6.8 has is to mobilize, resource, and connect. By supporting these values it helps mobilize the commands to meet the world’s biggest needs and have people ready to respond. To have resources to share and contribute to fulfill the role in this community. Lastly, connecting to create a connection with god, others, and creating a connection.
There are several ways to contribute to Serve 6.8 Adopt a family. You can find a local business or church and take one of the cards and find a child, or family that is wanting a certain gift or gift card for christmas. You are never limited to the amount of cards you are wanting to take to help with adopting a family. There are other ways around if you’re not wanting to take a card, giving a donation to help support this cause is something that also greatly improves this mission.
