In a surprising twist, teachers and staff at Greeley West have been secretly participating in their own versions of spirit days this week. While students often enjoy theme days like pajama day or twin day, little did they know that their teachers have been having their own fun behind the scenes.
The idea was put together by Ms. Dawn Feinberg, an art teacher who wants to boost fun and creativity among the faculty. “Most teachers don’t get a chance to see each other during the school day. This allows us to connect differently. Some of the days also give us a chance to get to know each other a little better,” mentioned Feinberg.
The teacher’s spirit days include wearing what makes you cozy, plentiful patterns, fandom, fancy footwear, and holiday sweaters.
These secret spirit days have not only provided a much needed break from the usual academic rigor but has also created fun between the staff. “We wanted to be more secretive about it to see if students would catch on to it. We are hoping to do anything but a cup for coffee next year like how you guys do anything but a backpack, so it’s a fun way for staff to bond,” said Ms. Amamda Jones-Weis.
Weis heavily participates in the secret teacher spirit week because she cares about staff wellness and believes work should be a fun place where you are with people you care about and do fun things together that creates a community.
The teachers plan to continue their secret spirit days throughout the rest of this year and oncoming years. This tradition has not only brought the teachers closer together but has also created stronger bonds between them and their students. So pay close attention to your teacher to see if you can find out when the next one happens.
