When November ended, so did No Shave November for the competing teachers and staff at Greeley West High School. Each teacher or staff member that competed were raising money for a charity of their choice. For this year’s competition Mr. Donald Wagner came out on top.
Wagner raised over $700 collectively from all his classes. When all of they money was pooled together, over $1000 was donated.
Wagner felt the kids needed to be a part of his cause as well helping decide the charity he chose. Wagner chose a charity that relates to his classes in psychology. He chose “Embark Behavioral Health” which helps families and teens cope with their teenager’s mental health. The reason for the choice was because at the time the students in class were currently studying mental health and how to treat it. Wagner and his students are very aware of the mental health around them because of their families and friends.
With the help of his students, Wagner won the competition. He offered students some extra credit if they donated at least $2. But some students ignored the $2 and many donated $20 and one student, $120. He felt that his classes went above and beyond with their generosity for such a good cause. “I think this whole fundraiser was special for my classes and myself because you really see the altruism of people,” Wagner said. “It’s hard for anyone to give money, let alone a teen that needs all the money they can get. I was truly humbled, inspired, and energized but their selfless kindness!”
