As finals inched closer for students, students are finding a cozy way to tackle down their studies for finals. Greeley West’s link crew expanded the idea to bring together freshmen to help prepare them for their first year of finals. Cram and Cocoa is giving the chance for freshmen to seek help from link crew leaders as they gain advice and guidance for any classes and upcoming finals.
Cram and Cocoa had originally been where students were able to stop by English teacher Ms. Whitney Upshaw’s classroom and grab some hot coco and hangout without staying and studying. Now that Link Crew has taken it over, they have decided to make some adjustments and aim more towards freshmen and preparing them for finals and giving them the chance to fix grades in any classes they may be struggling in. “We are offering it specifically for freshmen as a means of trying to prep for their first round of finals,” said Upshaw.
On December 9th, 10 Link Crew leaders and 16 freshmen had shown up for the cram and cocoa session at 4 p.m. in Upshaw’s room. They worked hard with their Link Crew leaders to work on their classes and prepare for their first year of finals. With link crew leaders not knowing what to expect, this year’s outcome was outstanding with the dedication from freshmen, and help and hard work of their Link Crew leaders.
Hard work is the name of the game for Cram and Cocoa. The event is designed to provide a support atmosphere from their link crew leaders to help keep them focused on their studies and help freshmen learn new ideas that upperclassmen might not have had while being a freshman in high school. It’s important for freshmen to have ideas on how to overcome struggles when being put in tough situations. “Teaching them tricks and tips that we had to learn the hard way, and its important to tell them, when I had those struggles this is what I did,” senior Meah Delgado mentioned.
As Cram and Cocoa came to an end, freshmen expressed their successes through the study session. “It was good, I did get a lot of work done and I was very happy,” said freshmen Anaya-Lee Vargas.
