Monday night, the District 6 Board of Education followed through with their Innovation 2030 Strategic Plan by issuing a resolution to families and the community in support of student privacy.
The resolution was made to make students feel safe in their public education setting regardless of their immigration status. This resolution was in response to current events dealing with immigration.
The Innovation Plan is used to help students by understanding the needs of their parents, guardians, and other adults which helps provide a successful education. In the resolution, the school district recognized that to ensure their students learn and thrive, they “will support their students safety no matter their disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, national origin, religion, veteran status, ancestry immigration status, or need for special education services.”
In the resolution, the Board of Education said that federal government immigration enforcement had created “confusion and anxiety” about attending school. The resolution was intended to encourage families to continue to have their kids go to school and access their free public education.
The board’s resolution reiterated their commitment to, “creating safe and secure school conditions through its policies prohibiting bullying, discrimination, and harassment.”
