Ermiyas Tesfaselassie is a senior who found a hobby through a class he tried for the first time this past school year.
Yearbook, a class that works hard throughout the year to capture and put together memories, has pushed Tesfaselassie in new directions. When Tesfaselassie started this class, he didn’t expect to be put as the assistant editor, and on top of that found a love for photography. “What people may not know is how much the editors do. We go through everyone’s work and fix anything that we feel is needed,” Tesfaselassie stated.
At different Greeley West events you’ll see Tesfaselassie with a camera in his hand taking pictures. This is because, “I found a passion for photography when I began Yearbook this past year.”
As he goes into college this next year he knows he wants to continue this journey. “I want to do this as a hobby, that’s why I want to build my profile and create a portfolio,” Tesfaselassie stated.
Mr. Garrett Leal is someone who’s worked closely with Tesfaselassie throughout his time here at West. According to Leal, “Ermiyas is quiet, hardworking, and thoughtful, but once you get to know him he can also be funny when you work to find that humor in him.”
When observing Tesfaselassie and his participation in the yearbook, Leal noticed, “I always see him doing interviews. He has definitely taken charge and I feel like the yearbook is in good hands with him.”
Becoming an editor his first year, Leal feels as though, “ whoever chose him, chose him well. I’ve noticed he’s very diligent with his work in that class.”
Ms. Lea Sanford has not only seen Tesfaselassie go through the halls of Greeley West, but has also experienced his older siblings. “A big part of being a Tesfaselassie is knowing you have big shoes to fill, and his brothers and sisters have come through here and have been wonderful. But he’s wonderful too,” Sanford stated.
Having a wonderful outlook on life is important, and that’s what Sanford feel’s Tesfaselassie has. “He’s motivated, a good team player, and he has a wonderful outlook in life; he’s just fun to be around,” Sanford said.
From a view she’s noticed, “it seems like he’s crushing it, I see the yearbook activity on instagram and it looks like they got a real intentionality with getting as many kids in the yearbook as possible and I think he’s has a really big hand in that.”
