On Wednesday March 5th, the Greeley West High School girls soccer team went up against Fort Morgan. The team came out with a victory against Fort Morgan with the score being 4-1. This was a wonderful win for the team to start the season.
From past games over the years against Fort Morgan, they have been known for putting up a good match against Greeley West. The Spartans were expecting to come into this game with tough competition, with the game neck and neck until the very last goal. “Match up wise, my freshman year we got beat by them by one and then we had tied this year,” junior Delylah Ruiz said.
While going up against Fort Morgan, many great plays were made throughout the games from each player. Sacrifices are needed to be made in games like these when you don’t have players in every spot. It’s what’s crucial about the sport when spots are needing to be filled to finish the game. Sometimes it doesn’t take years of skill and training to have dedication and drive to help your team go forward to victory.
There was lots of drive and competitiveness in the Fort Morgan game. The team came in thinking it was going to be a close game and the odds were in their favor. One player really stood out during this game and stepped up for their team not only as their captain but as playing a new position to get through the game. “I had to step up as a captain and play goalie which showed my dedication and love for the game,” junior Ella Lopez said.
All positions in soccer are very important and crucial for the team to play its best. Throughout the game. good defense and offense was seen to pull out this victory against Fort Morgan. It’s important that players have good communication and coordination with each other to understand each situation they are put in.
There are certain positions on the team that help lead and guide the team to where they need to be on the field. Harlow Cropper did a great job against Fort Morgan in leading their team to victory, including in defense. “I think I communicated with the backline well and it showed their trust in me.” sophomore Harlow Cropper said.
