Preparing for her future, that’s what senior Aria Moroka is doing through her med-prep program with Aims Community College through Career Academy.
From her busy schedule of having her med classes for the first half of her day, then college classes for the second half she finds balance with her lifestyle. “What I like most about it is what it goes through and teaches. We learn about BLS and the clinicals we’ll have at the end of the year, but as of right now we’re learning about seniors and if you were to work at a nursing home, how the healthcare looks surrounding that,” Moroka stated.
Getting used to this schedule wasn’t easy, but this senior has managed and learned to adapt. “At first it was a lot and I had my doubts about it because I wasn’t the best at time management, but now I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of it,” Moroka stated.
Laying at a schedule was important to Moroka because, “I keep in mind when I’m at school I also have my college classes to consider so I focus on what I need to prioritize and lay out a schedule for myself.”
While she has a busy school schedule Moroka throws in track and work into her daily life. “While also prioritizing what I need to do, I also communicate with my coach to see what days I could miss practice so I can also work. The only downside is that I can’t be as involved with track but I take into consideration I do need to work in order to go to college,” Moroka said.
When looking to the future Moroka said this would help her by, “giving me an idea of what healthcare looks like, I have always had an interest in it as a career and go between that and law. Doing this program has given me an opportunity to learn and also get certificates that I can always have with me if needed.”
AVID teacher Mr. Ryan Pace has been Morokas teacher since her sophomore year. “Aria is the prime example of being an AVID student. The way she manages her time and carries herself to help her succeed is everything we wanted her to take out of AVID and what makes her a good student,” Pace stated.
