A lot of Greeley West organizations show off their talents in the community and the Greeley West Fashion Club just wrapped up hosting a display the LINC Library in downtown Greeley that celebrated pop music star Selena and recognized her death from 30 years ago. The exhibit was on display for a week during April.
The libarary reached out to sponsor Ms. Susan Eastin about celebrating the beloved Latin music sensation and the club was happy to put together a memorial display The Fashion Club worked to create dresses and other outfits that Selena was famous for wearing, including her Grammy white dress and her famous purple dress. The students ended up making three life-sized dresses and 10 mini figures dressed to remember the beloved artist and social figure. Each representation was accompanied by a photo of Selena in the outift.

Junior secretary Erwin Gonzales was tasked with creating a mini figure of Selena’s black leather outfit, which she wore in concert. Gonzales explained, “When people think of Selena, they think of her white Grammy outfit or her purple dress, but we wanted people to see more of a unique perspective for her time.”
Selena is often celebrated for her uniqueness and her ability to push cultural norms in many arts such as fashion and more notably music, a true inspiration for Latin-Americans alike. The students were given some creative freedom such as the president of the club, Mariana Ramerez. Ramerez said, “I’ve always been into flowy things so I decided to use a longer flowy fabric for this project, but my deadline was a huge inspiration too.”
