On April 17, the Greeley West Spartans tennis team did more than just celebrate a win against Northridge. They celebrated a night to remember with their seniors on their last home game of the season. Before playing the Grizzlies, the Spartans recognized their seniors before their matches. This is the moment for underclassmen to come together and prepare gifts for their seniors for all the hard work they have put into the team.
One of the many traditions for the girls tennis team is recognizing the seniors on the tennis courts, where the underclassman created gift baskets to give to their seniors, but this tradition has changed. Instead of having them celebrate seniors on the tennis courts they moved it to celebrating to someone’s house. This tradition was changed so seniors would still be able to experience their senior night even with bad weather conditions.
Senior night is a chance for seniors to be acknowledged for their hard work and the time and dedication that they have put inside to help build the team into a stronger program. This is letting the seniors understand that this is their last game on their home courts. “Our seniors have left our program in such a positive way because of all the legwork they have done,” coach Ryan Pace said.
With families and friends coming together to watch a loved one play their hardest against their competition is a moment to remember. Knowing as a senior that this is your last meet all together with your teammates as a senior is a monumental moment. “It’s a moment I took to reflect and see that this is our last time, and it’s sad,” Senior Kaylee Suntken said.
When it comes to teams, you always have the leaders who stand out the most, the ones that have put in the most work to build a strong foundation for later years. Some of those leaders are Piper Clany, Sophie Dhupar, Bella Clark and Meah Delgado. These 4 seniors were here with the girls tennis team since their freshman year. “This senior night was a good night to remember because of the team we played, the chances were high with winning,” Senior Piper Clancy said.
All Seniors put in hard work and dedication for the Tennis program, which help create strong bonds within the tennis community. These seniors were: Piper Clancy, Sophie Dhupar, Bella Clark, Mesh Delgado, Cheryl Rodriguez, Joslyn Melendez, Gisselle Martinez, Kaylee Suntken, Julia Eastin, and Lily Hinojosa.
