Soccer team puts together good week
April 25, 2016
On Tuesday, April 19th, the girls soccer team took quite the hit with a depressing 3-2 loss to Legacy at home in overtime. The game was extremely competitive on both ends, but in the end, Legacy was able to score just minutes into overtime. Senior forward, Kiley Cropper, scored both goals for the Spartans, one in the first half and one in the second to help them take a short lead before Legacy was able to push the game to overtime.
“It was a tough loss, but I believe we will learn from it and continue to play our hearts out no matter how things are looking,” stated senior, Caeley Lordemann, after the loss.
To a certain level of surprise, two days later the Spartans did just that by edging out a 3-2 victory over Horizon.
The game came down to the wire, and was by far the girls most impressive win this season. The first two goals came from Cropper and Lordemann. Cropper scored first off an assist from Lordemann, then Lordermann scored off an assist from Jaylin. The final goal, however, was pure magic! After a great pass by Mary Beth to Lordemann, an Horizon player fouled to give the Spartans a PK. Senior, Jaylin Piacenza, capitalized on Horizon’s mistake and scored on the PK attempt to send the Spartans to victory.
When asked how she felt after drilling the shot, Piacenza stated, “It felt so good to hit the shot! I was so happy my team could pull out a win and that they had faith in me to take the shot.”
