Northridge’s new schedule isn’t perfect either

Kamrynn Lipp, Staff Writer

Lipp, KamrynnThe bell schedule at Northridge has changed, but the rest of the Greeley high schools have remained the same. The new schedule has Northridge students beginning their days at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8:45 a.m. on Mondays.

The students seem to enjoy the late start; despite sacrificing time for lunch, as their allotted time is a mere 30 minutes.

Northridge has completely cut out block days as well.

The only change in Greeley West’s schedule has this year is “homeroom” instead of Spartan Time. This homeroom class now counts for a 1/4 of an elective credit on students’ transcripts.

The class times at Northridge are cut down to roughly 40 minutes per class, while West and Central stayed at 55 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the day.

There are issues with both of these schedules in the high school community. A good solution would be to have a schedule that is a combination of both current high school schedules.  Perhaps a start time of 7:30 a.m., cutting out block days and “homeroom” completely, shortening class times and lengthening the lunch period.

Stress levels would also be down for students and teachers. Block days are likely very stressful for teachers to plan as it is a very long period and you have to make sure your students are still engaged. Students also hate block days due to the length and the inconsistent schedule. Overall, a schedule in between the new schedule at Northridge and our traditional schedule would be the best for everyone in District 6.
