Traffic patterns diverted to help buses

This closed gate is forcing student drivers to leave via the exit on 24th Street to help with bus congestion at the end of school days.

Student drivers and parents alike will sit in traffic a little bit longer since Greeley West campus monitors re-routed traffic in new directions on Tuesday August 30.

Students and parents can no longer exit the school through the West exit in the teacher parking lot between the times of 3:15-3:30. This is due to the overcrowding in the parking lot directly after school gets out. The south lot lot was a particularly congested area due to the heavy traffic of students, parents, teachers, and buses. The predominant problem was students and parents cutting of the buses at the West end near the practice football field.

In order to fix this problem, the security officers have set up a barrier to prevent exiting through the west roadway. Students and parents will now exit at the light on 35th Avenue and 24th Street.  They could also choose to wait until after 3:30 when the exit is re-opened.

Greeley West junior Matthew Hoesch said, “A pro is that it lets the buses leave on time, but a con is that it creates a huge traffic jam at the light.”

Hoesch has his own plan to avoid wasting gas sitting in traffic:  he waits until after 3:30 in the library to avoid the congestion.
