On Wednesday, Greeley West hosted its4th annual March Toward Your Future event. This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to solidify their post-secondary plans and get any additional information they need to be prepared for their college journey
Senior Counselor Ms. Hannah Rivera thinks its a great chance for any senior, no matter the circumstance, to help themselves in the long run “The big points are the seniors getting to talk about and do things like college admission steps, CASFA and FAFSA application submissions, and making sure any stragglers who havent committed, commit,” Rivera said
For the college representatives this event is about engaging their students and helping them as much as possible. “We talk mainly about general information, we answer questions they have, and guide them through whatever information they need, if they need any, we try to have fun with them also,” MSU Representative Emily Vega stated
This event has been a huge success for the seniors and has continued to grow each year. “Although my specific college wasnt there, Bright Futures was and so I got the chance to talk to them about their scholarship and they were extremely helpful,” senior Owen Wildt said.
He went on to say, “This event is great for all types of students, and definitely should be continued for every other class, it seems dumb but it becomes so much more useful once your actually there and can engage with everyone”
Some of our other seniors like Lucy Perea and Ermiyas Tesfaselassie agreed with Wildt. “For me, a lot of mental prep went into it, it’s hard to imagine that I graduate soon and i wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to be fully prepared so I did a lot of planning and research beforehand to be ready,” Perea stated.
Tesfaselassie added on to Perea’s statement saying, “I had previous knowledge about the event, so for me this was about clarification and what to expect when I head to college, It was nice talking to my representative, finally being able to take action and get the paperwork finally finished, and talk to other students about their next steps.”
