The Greeley West cross country team had a week to remember, coming off a second place finish from the boy’s team, and a city championship awarded to the girl’s team. The Spartan girls have won back-to-back city championships under coach Rich Davis. Junior, Maria Geesaman came in first for the girl’s team, proving once again that she’s one of the top runners in Weld County.

Iralynn Carmona was one of the top runners for the Spartans cross team as well.  When asked about her performance and the overall team performance, she stated, “We’re excited to keep running well, and working hard towards Arizona.”

The cross country team continues to prepare and look forward to their November trip to Arizona, where both teams will compete at the South West Regional qualifier. When asked about the trip, Coach Davis, mentioned, “I’m excited to travel to Arizona and see my runners run at sea level. It’s a nice fast track, and our runners will be able to just let it loose and run through somewhere without altitude.”

Both the girls and boys will compete at Island Grove this Saturday as they look to improve both their individual times and overall team score. The boys and girls will both begin before noon on Saturday, and compete for another first place finish.
