The Greeley West Boys Soccer team pulled off a spectacular victory last night over the Fossil Ridge Sabercats. The Spartans won in double overtime, 3-2, with an amazing goal scored by Kelton Boyd. The boys snapped a five-game losing streak after facing some of the toughest opponents in the state these past two weeks.

The Spartans came into Thursday night’s game looking for a key victory over a very tough opponent in Fossil Ridge. The score was 1-1 headed into half, and the boys knew they needed something big to come later in the game to get a victory. They got a quick score in the second half from Junior Luis Ramos, and carried a 2-1 lead most of the game. Just as the boys thought they were going to win in regulation, they were stunned in the last three minutes by the Sabercats to even up the score.

As the first overtime ended the Spartans were drained and exhausted. That was until junior Kelton Boyd scored a lob goal right over the goal keepers head. Kelton said, “It felt amazing scoring that goal and winning a big game after losing five straight tough ones.”

It marks the first win against the Fossil Ridge Sabercats and improves the Spartans’ record to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in league play. They look to keep the momentum against a very tough Poudre Impalas team on October 4th at 6 p.m. at District 6 Stadium.
