Last week, a group of FFA officers traveled to Indianapolis for the FFA National Convention.  The group included President Alan Olmedo Soto and Vice President Micaela Fenton, who were joined by Ali Tovar, Kira Johnson, and Caitlin Williams, Kaylee Bryson and Austin Wood.

Two teachers also made the trip, Mr. Kelly Longacre and Ms. Sam Maxwell.

At the convention, over 50,000 members of FFA and their guests attended. The participants competed in competitions, received honorary degrees, and attended national workshops with agricultural leaders across the nation.

The FFA students went to agricultural businesses around the community to help sponsor the costs of the trip.  They also did a fundraiser called “Pass the Goat,” where they took the goat to waiting rooms at car dealerships around the community and waited until each car dealer would pay them to go to another dealership with their goat.  After all the fundraising was done, students only had to pay $750 dollars for the trip.

On the trip, the students toured “hot” spots in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Kansas. Some of those important locales included The Grand Ol’ Opry, where famous country musicians play concerts and the Budweiser Cyldesdale Breeding Facility.

The students also visited some colleges on the trip.  “We also went and visited colleges such as Tulsa School of Welding, the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma State University, University of Arkansas, and Purdue University,” Fenton said.

“It was a very unique experience.  We were doing so much every day, it was very overwhelming,” Fenton said.  “It was very educational so it was nice having Monday off to catch up on things.”
